The city of Mende has museum collections ranging from the first traces of life to the 21st century, including the Beast of Gévaudan: approximately 16,000 objects, mainly from the Société des Lettres, Sciences et Arts de la Lozère. The Musée du Gévaudan, a regional museum, will present a rich palette covering archaeology, fine arts, graphic arts, painting, sculpture, ethnography and history. With a surface area of nearly 1,200 m2, the Musée du Gévaudan will be spread over 3 levels:
A ground floor open to the territory, with free access: introductory and shared spaces, including a Center for the Interpretation of Architecture and Heritage (CIAP) - Pays d'Art et d'Histoire Mende et Lot-en-Gévaudan
A 1st floor of permanent exhibitions: territory, history, arts (from the first traces of life to contemporary creation, through the Beast of Gévaudan...)
A 2nd floor dedicated to temporary exhibitions.
